I have done most of my flying on a single stick rig. However, when my son learned to fly R/C, he did so on a conventional two stick transmitter. I wanted him to be able to fly my airplanes comfortably - that meant it was time for a new project.

My goal was to find a transmitter housed in a vintage, metal case and upgrade it to contain the MicroStar 2000 encoder. I also wanted to use a 2.4 gHz radio system. The Futaba case forced me to use a smaller LCD display than I had used in my previous transmitters. I used the Assan 2.4 gHz module for the RF link. The transmitter turned out great, and is a favorite with both my son and I.
